I have been a mail artist for fifteen years now, with moments of great proliferation of my work, as well as long lulls. I have seen thousands of pieces of mail art come through my mailbox; and my conclusion is that those in the network who use art as a tool to affect change, they do so far more often than not, in a way detrimental to humankind. More than working to help; they work to harm.
Hatred only brings greater power to evil, and if you murder, even just in your heart; you have brought very real death into the world.
Mercy, on the other hand, brings life.
Tonight, I conceived a project; MAAS, “Mail Art Animal Shelter.” It will not pour out more hatred and violence into a world already stricken by war; but, as food to hungry animals, and as art to hungry human souls, I am calling on the mail art community to send my way a package containing both pre-packaged animal food, along with a work of their art.
Mercy heals wounds. Hatred creates deeper wounds. Love heals.
