The mail art community has as its greatest hero, Ray Johnson, known for his proliferation and perhaps instantiation of the mail art network as it is known today. He poured forth endless hours of labor, in an effort to connect artists with artists. Behind every, “good,” man, is a, “good,” woman; and Ray Johnson had Mark Bloch to teach him the seductive power in Yves Klein, in John Cage; “NOTHING.”
I cannot say, but I would wager that it was this influence which led Ray Johnson to believe that if he jumped into the ocean or into the sea, and drowned himself; he could become woth as much as a Yves Klein painting.
Ray Johnson truly contributed, “NOTHING,” to humanity or to the mail art network.
